Lead by Indigenous singer Calum McKenzie, Jahquavis is a 5 piece reggae rock band who know how to rock the crowd and get them dancing. The funk band formed in the beach side suburb Nightcliff in Darwin in 2020.
With a talent for penning their own upbeat tracks Jahquavis brings you original music, strong messages and lyrics written in both English and the Burarra Language of Maningrida a remote Aboriginal community in West Arnhem Land. The band are inspired by artists such as ‘Letter Stick’, ‘Wild Water', ‘Great Gable’ & ‘Ocean Alley’.
Jahquavis are a high energy, upbeat band that merges both Indigenous culture and reggae rock into soulful music for every one to enjoy.
They have packed out numerous live music venues in Darwin and played the NT anti fracking concert; supporting John Butler
In October 2020 Jahquavis was one of 3 artists ‘handpicked’ by the Darwin Entertainment Centre’s (DEC) inaugural ESCALATE musical development workshop program for emerging performers and are said to be one of the next breakthrough bands from the Northern Territory. Watch this space
