Justin Vilchez is an Australian mandolinist and songwriter known for his dynamic playing and distinctive voice within bluegrass music. Beginning his musical journey at eight years old, Justin’s passion for melody and rhythm led him to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music, a foundation that shapes his creative and technical approach today.
A dynamic performer and writer, Justin crafts original material that balances authenticity with a modern edge. His song “Back to the Hills” a heartfelt ode to resilience and belonging earned a nomination for Bluegrass Recording of the Year at the 2025 CMAA Golden Guitar Awards, while his instrumental “Snakes Reach” placed third in the prestigious Monroe Mandolin Tune Writing Competition, showcasing his strength as a composer as well as a performer.
