WOOTTON MAJOR
Hailing from the sun-kissed shores of the Gold Coast, Wootton Major is a dynamic Indie-Rock quartet that was born in the reverence of Rock & Roll classics. Lorcan Waugh, Guy Cornwell, Blaine McGuiness, and William Hoareau are the final form of a revolving pool of friends that coloured Wootton’s early incarnations, and now stand with a strong collective passion for originality and a deep-seated love for music.
To identify a single word to categorise Wootton Major’s sound is no simple task. Among the milieu of influences on the band you see a broad scope of tradition and progress, with traces of The Beatles and Pink Floyd, all interwoven with a collage of country, blues, modern indie and alternative rock.
Lorcan Waugh leads with a voice that while soaring and smooth is grounded in connection to the grittiness of human emotion and experience. Drawing from 60’s & 70’s singer-songwriters, there is an enveloping sincerity in Lorcan’s vocal delivery, that is ornamented by highly expressive, melodic guitars, and a rhythm section that while unyielding, evolves with nuance and flair. All of this can be heard in Wootton’s first releases “Shivering” and “Victimless Crime”, which are equally captivating, slow-burn expressive rides, culminating in a growling outpour of defeat, remorse and growth. These tracks have taken flight, resonating with audiences across the world and establishing the band as a rising star in the indie-rock scene.
Since their inception in 2014 this electrifying band has taken their captivating presence to stages throughout the Gold Coast and Brisbane, earning their stripes as a truly gripping, standout live act. Their music transcends borders, resonating with listeners across continents and cultures, garnering a substantial streaming presence in the USA, Europe, the UK, South America, and their home country, Australia.
As excitement mounts for their upcoming album, a treasure trove of songs with a cohesive blend of familiarity and innovation, Wootton Major are continuing to deliver unforgettable performances, the latest being at the Gold Coast’s annual Bleach* Music and Art’s Festival, where they captivated audiences with a no-holds-barred, 30 minute “greatest hits” set by the scenes of stunning North Burleigh headland. Their ability to appeal to a diverse demographic in audiences such as these is a testament to their universal appeal, and the crowd's enthusiastic response was nothing short of electric.
With a rich blend of nostalgia and contemporary charm, Wootton Major’s music has the power to resonate with listeners of all backgrounds. From their electrifying festival performances to their forthcoming album that promises to be a musical voyage worth waiting for, Wootton Major continue to carve their unique path in the Australian music industry and beyond. As they harmonise the echoes of the past with the rhythms and colour of today, their promise shines brightly, a beacon of artistry destined to keep hearts and souls swaying to the beat for years to come.
