2017/18 MY QUEEN ALBUM REVIEWS
“…enough radio-friendliness at play to threaten a real crossover to the mainstream.”
“…sounding like Kate Bush mixed with Alanis Morissette with a sprinkling of Kate Ceberano and Kasey Chambers, you are in for a journey of music euphoria. The feel of “My Queen” is one of homage to the great female rock albums of the 90’s dragged dazzlingly into 2017. "
“It might have been 20 years since Diana Anaid kicked down the doors with her debut single, I Go Off, but the years haven’t dimmed the effusive energy- My Queen rocks! Diana practically bursting out of her skin as she reaches that much further, higher, deeper trying to express the idea, the emotion.”
"The spirit is honest, heartfelt and pleads with listeners to, well, listen..."
“It’s a bold vision to encompass, but one suited to an artist of Anaid’s pedigree. Her command of rhythm, lyric, and melody are as strong as ever on My Queen, whether it’s on the heartsick ruminations of Cant Apologise or the ruthless Wish You Well. Better Girl holds completely true to the album’s modus operandi- if you told me that it was released anytime between the 1970s and today, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid.”
"My Queen stands up as one of the best records I’ve recorded. I’ve got a short list of 10 of the hundreds of records I have worked on, including The Screaming Jets, Monty Python’s - The Rutles, Toyah Wilcox, Weta, The Rumjacks and now My Queen has been added to that list." Steve James (producer)
2017/18 LIVE REVIEWS
"With acoustic in hand the beautiful singer/songwriter sang her way through well-constructed songs about life, love, ups and downs and everything in-between. Coming across as the Australian equivalent of Alanis Morissette, the alternative rock/pop on display is world class."
“First up, the wistful and edgy, rebellious and arty, relentlessly creative Diana Anaid delivered a set of tracks from her new album My Queen and older fasvourites, relying solely on her acoustic guitar and amazing voice.”
“..a powerful, emotive voice..with up-tempo folk-rock feminist anthems.”
“It's pleasing to see some Dandy Highwayman-inspired fashion on bods milling around Palais Theatre tonight. Diana Anaid performs solo on guitar to open and displays impressive multi-tasking skills when she shares the inspiration behind Perfect Family, keeping perfect time while simultaneously playing this song on guitar. At song's close, Anaid dedicates this catchy number to the guy who made the video, saying it was great to see him just before this show after so many years. I Go Off is more manic than we remember it. Poor Anaid tells us she has tonsillitis and is "singing through it" as best she can.”
BIO:
Starting in 1997, Anaid’s self-funded and self-produced feral-folk debut stood out amongst the hip hop and teen-pop that was dominating the 90’s airwaves, spawning the #1 alternative hit I Go Off, and leaving many to
wonder if this young mum was just another one trick pony.
Diana’s follow up I Don’t Think I’m Pregnant saw her receive her 5th ARIA nomination and her second inclusion in Triple J's Hottest 100, crossing into commercial radio with Don’t Believe In Love and
silencing those who had placed her in the one-hit-wonder pile.
With comparisons to Liz Phair, P.J Harvey and Ani DiFranco, Diana Ah Naid (as she was known until changing it to the palindromic Anaid) in 2004 cracked the U.S market with Last Thing and her ‘No Boys Allowed’ campaign, which saw the single climb into the Billboard Top40.
My Queen follows on from the successful release of singles Can't Apologise and Better Girl which both received video premiers by TheMusic, airplay across the board from Double J to Triple M and ABC, and plenty of 'Love the single, can't wait for the album' comments.
Co-written with longtime guitarist Nathan Correy, produced by Aria Award winning Steve James (Torah Wilcox, Screaming Jets, Skunkhour, Sex Pistols) the album has already earned praise such as;
"Diana’s a rock ‘n’ roll firecracker… a totally passionate one-off'"- Michael Smith - Rhythms
"My Queen' has all the heartache, wit, poetry and honesty of her most well-known work." - MJ O'Neill-TheMusic
With video clip for first single Can’t Apologise by Rock n Roll Hall of Fame recipient Nick Egan (Oasis, Duran Duran ), My Queen was mastered in the UK by Tim Young ( Massive Attack/Madonna ) and its list of impressive contributors help to create the album of Diana's career.
Recent video for Better Girl (made by Diana's son Stone!) has been described by industry stalwarts as an "incredibly powerful video" (MGM) and fans have called it "So amazing. Beautiful song and film clip that many transgender will relate to".
Leaving Town is the most recent offering, with a timely message about climate change and social justice, and it is accompanied by an inspiring animated video by local artist Kerry Negus.
Diana is a pioneer of a "Different kind of girl power" (Music Network)
and a stand-out musician who "continues delivering authentic, original music" (Kathy McCabe)
My Queen sees the return of a "truly talented singer/songwriter". (The Music Network)
Diana's career highlights include US Billboard Top 40 placement, 5 ARIA nominations, 2 inclusions in Triple J's Hottest 100 and sets at the BDO, Falls, Vans Warped, Woodford and Byron Blues Fest: in the words of the late Iain Sheddon, "there's only one Diana Anaid!"

2019 current press release
The culmination of years of writing, "My Queen" sees the return of a
truly talented Australian singer/songwriter, Diana Anaid.
The Album Release follows on from the successful release of single Can't Apologise in 2017
which received a video premiere by TheMusic, airplay across the board from Double J to Triple M
and plenty of 'Love The Single, Can't Wait for the Album' comments.
Co-written with longtime guitarist Nathan Correy, My Queen's 11 songs
reveal the tremendous personal and musical growth of the artist with
themes of endurance and transformation, capably backed by some of the
countries best players and produced by ARIA award winner Steve James (Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees).
Diana says-
"This album of thoughtfully chosen songs was written during a brief hiatus from the industry, time that I spent reconnecting with family and with my love of writing. 'Into Your Heart’ was inspired by the psychedelic front woman of Jefferson Airplane, Grace Slick, a sixties legend and pro-gay rights supporter. 'Better Girl' speaks of my never-ending love for my transgender sister and my wish for a more compassionate world for her. Braveheart was written for the childrens protection and advocacy group Bravehearts. Other songs touch on very personal but highly relateable experiences from my life; heartbreak, death, abuse, loneliness, addiction, friendship etc etc."
Producer Steve James says-
"My Queen stands up as one of the best records I’ve recorded. I’ve got a short list of 10 of the hundreds of records I have worked on, including The Screaming Jets, Monty Python’s - The Rutles, Toyah Wilcox, Weta, The Rumjacks and now My Queen has been added to that list."
