Gretta Ziller, an acclaimed Australian Americana artist with classical training and a fusion of rock, pop, and blues influences, boasts two Golden Guitar nominations. Her musical tapestry, inspired by a diverse range, spans jazz and classical genres. Gretta consciously defies comparison, forging a distinctive path in her musical journey.
A self-described "weird person that doesn’t sound like anyone," Gretta grew up as the lone musician in a family of farmers. Encouraged by her grandmother, who played the violin, Gretta's parents steered her towards violin lessons. Her musical exploration expanded to include various instruments, even bagpipes, during school. It wasn't until her Bachelor of Music studies at Melbourne University, majoring in voice, that Gretta embraced the guitar.
"I’ve always played and sung because it makes my heart happy," enthuses Gretta. "Music has always been my joy; creating, especially. I can connect and sing the songs that were a part of my life, and then they can become a part of somebody else’s life; I think that’s pretty damn special."
Gretta's career highlights include warming up stages for Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley during their Together Alone tour in 2022. Her fanbase grows organically as audiences, drawn in by these coveted support slots, seek out Gretta’s headline shows.
Her albums, both long-listed for the Australian Music Prize, garnered recognition, and she received an Australian Independent Radio Mentorship. Participating in the 2021 Global Music Match Program and being a four-time finalist for an APRA PD further solidify her standing in the industry.
In 2023, Gretta was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) Academy of Music Scholarship. Spending valuable time in Nashville, she showcased her talent at Americana Fest, coinciding with the release of her third album, "All These Walls."
Entering 2024, Gretta takes on "The Long & Writing Road," a daring challenge involving 52 co-writing sessions in 52 weeks. This year marks a decade since Gretta embarked on her musical journey, celebrating ten years dedicated to releasing music and leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
