No stranger to the Melbourne music scene, Heather Fiona has spent more than a decade crafting her own inimitable style of soulful retro-pop, initially with The Sweet Somethings where Heather would begin to develop her alt-country inspired songwriting prowess, through to her ongoing ‘glam-folk’ trio Heartwood. Her main focus for the moment, her evolving solo career, has Heather taking the full limelight while backed by some of Melbourne’s finest musicians - notably, celebrated producer Tim Guy on guitar, as well as longtime collaborators The Wolfettes on evocative harmony vocals.
Her latest album ‘Two Steps’ is a dynamic work, diverging from her signature sound. The album, produced by Tim Guy, exhibits her ability to deliver cross-genre songwriting, ranging from pop-rock number 'Reckless Wonder' to the sultry, salty 'Dark Places' and folk/country numbers 'When I'm in Need' & 'Lucky to be Old when you Die’. Track 5 'Trouble' (released as a single in 2020) is a thrilling rumination on vulnerability, set to a backdrop of pleasantly lazy guitars and beaming horns. The title number, 'Two Steps', is a guaranteed toe tapper, recorded live complete with 9 piece band at Phaedra Studios, Coburg. Surprise stand out 'Ouch My Heart' is a quirky love song dedicated to unrequited affection.
A self described ‘multi-passionate’, between her musician/prosthetist (double) life commitments, Heather also runs WestSong, an inclusive songwriting collective she founded to foster emerging talent, contributes as a writer to music/arts website Trouble Juice, and can still be caught lending her stunning voice on back-up duty with other local acts.
