Notorious roots and reggae troubadours based on Bundjalung lands, regional NSW, East Coast Australia.
A collection of rebel folk songs, woven into Caribbean grooves, laced with salty psychedelic-dub, and delivered via an ensemble that offers up flavours of afrobeat, soul, funk and dancehall.
Triple J's Dave Ruby Howe describes it as "Authentic grooves with a hypnotic dub feel. This act does it really right. 4 stars ****"
Featuring an all-star Shakedown lineup including the powerhouse rhythm section of Hugh Jones and TK Bassdread, multi-instrumentalists Chelsea SkyEater, MsEleneous and Jack Chiu playing saxophones, clarinet, melodica, trumpet and backing voices, with live-analogue dubs and delays from the wizardry of Marky Power, layers of percussion from Be-Rad and songsmith Jesse Morris on guitars, Ableton loops and voice.
Their sound is an accumulation of powerful messages, elaborate space echoes, four-part harmonies and a high-octane dose of psychedelic-infused Pacific grooves.
Honouring the legacy and sounds of Caribbean roots music. Celebrating community, country & culture.
Jesse Morris and the Shakedown will release their new album in Spring 2026 and tour nationally throughout 2026-27.
