Juliet Angelique Bodley aka Julie Mango
Social Media Influencer | Comedian | Certified Life Coach | Mental-health Advocate
Juliet Angelique Bodley, also known as Julie Mango, is a comedic-actress, award-winning social media influencer and mental health advocate.
Her online skits centered around Jamaican culture and headlined by popular characters Mavis and her daughter Janet, have attracted fans from all over the globe, while earning millions of likes, shares and followers, with many going “viral.”
Juliet’s fan base includes a diverse cross-section of people and celebrity personalities, including Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness; actress and cookbook author Ayesha Curry (wife of basketball player Stephen Curry); musician and drummer Questlove; and Marley siblings Ziggy, Sharon and Rohan.
Born in Jamaica with an educational and professional pedigree as a structural engineer, Juliet has received numerous accolades for the comedic talent she first explored at age 12. Those awards include the 2023 Daughter of the Soil Award from the Jamaica Independence Foundation, which was accompanied by proclamations from Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke’s (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Kevin S. Parker (D-N.Y.); Best Jamaican Social Media Personality for 2021-2023 by media outlet Jamaicans.com; 2023 Comedian of the Year by the International Reggae & World Music Awards; and she was the 2022 Social Media Ambassador for Jamaica’s yearlong commemoration of the island’s Diamond Jubilee (Jamaica 60).
While Mavis has the broadest appeal – Juliet calls her the equivalent of actor Tyler Perry’s Madea character – she has introduced nearly 200 fictional people to the world. And she plans to take some of them on the road. Juliet is developing a one-woman show headlined by Mavis and six of the lively characters.
Juliet’s shift from a corporate career to a more creative during the COVID pandemic came with triumphs and challenges. The social media sensation was booked as a guest on podcasts, tapped to emcee events and earned multiple awards for her comedic talents. But the transition from a secure 9-5 environment to one more fickle required fortitude.
Diagnosed at an early age with borderline personality disorder, Juliet’s new career in the limelight was accompanied by some dark moments. At times, she hid the turmoil, recognizing the discord between her ability to bring joy to others, while struggling with personal sadness.
So, she became outspoken about her battles with depression and suicide attempts, and began advocating for herself and others. A Christian by upbringing, she leaned into the wisdom of others, such as American essayist Henry David Thoreau, especially his philosophy that, “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
Juliet advanced confidently, and in early 2024, she said the earth shifted. These days, she is focused on expanding her career in acting and public speaking on mental health.
Juliet studied structural engineering at the University of Technology, Jamaica, completing her master's degree in engineering management at Florida International University. She is a member of the Maxwell Leadership Certified Team and has undergone John Maxwell Coaching Certification.
