The Cairns based musicians are a smooth eclectic blend of reggae, R’n’B and neo-soul sounds infused with their rustic soul harmonies. Their passion for music is both the fruit and the vehicle of what inspires them at heart. The heart and vision for the trio is to educate, inspire and encourage the growth of young leaders who add value to their families and communities.
Music for them as individuals and collectively, has always been a tool that has passed on the understanding of language, culture and values which continues to shape their lives towards the direction of success.
Alicia Mellor is grounding the music with her smooth bass. Her passion for creative arts was quickly recognised allowing her to showcasing her vocal talents on the world stage. In 2015 Alicia joined the Nanna Album world tour with Xavier Rudd & the United Nations, jump starting her professional career and establishing her as a vocalist. She continues to explore her passion for creative arts and is currently in the process of adding other elements of creative artistry to her specialised skillsets.
Kaweyova is the 6 string aspect that has managed to vocally captivate audiences. Her ability to lyrically story tell in language is colourfully texturized with her unique tone and vocal range leaving her listeners in awe. Her career has had many doors of opportunity embarking her travels across the Pacific Islands, Dubai, Papua New Guinea and many destinations across Australia. Her current residency at the Cairns Reef Casino & regular P&O guest appearances is only a taste for what is about to unfold for the exciting future ahead.
After teaming up on a number of projects as a session drummer and a facilitator delivering community development programs, Mayella is now joining forces with these ladies. Her passion to create a niche market for female musicians has gravitated her to the unique concept of Kamali. Her passion to continue to diversify her skill set is what brings the dynamic edge that will set apart Kamali in a league of their own.
The group offer a range of shows from full 4 piece band to duo. They have turned heads with their explosive ear catching music, innovative electronic adaptation and intricate arrangements. Their debut performance at the 2016 Cairns Indigenous Art Fair quickly gained melodic favour within their home town. New found networks continued to see their heavy involvement continued within the 2017 program including the opening night and performances everyday throughout the festival weekend. The 2017 Fun in the Sun - Cairns Festival also provided a welcoming platform on the festivals opening night further establishing Kamali & Co. Music within their broader community.
Their passion for music and its’ artform for storytelling has also inspired their collective anthropic interests including Sucide Prevention, the Free West Papua Campaign & positive Youth Initiatives across the country.
Kamali & Co. Music is set to perform at the 2018 St Kilda Festival on the 3rd Of Feb and the 2018 Commonwealth Games Festival (Cairns) in April.
Kamali & Co. is set to launch their first original EP followed by a promotional tour in 2018/19.
