About

What started as a solo, alt-folk offering from Melbourne-based James McGuffie, ‘Mcrobin’ quickly developed into a progressive four piece band. The next two years saw the band refine their sound, both on stage and in the studio; releasing two EP’s and playing a run of headline shows and festival slots (incl. St. Kilda Fest, Mt Beauty Fest and Canberra’s Beyond Fest).

On the first two EP’s (both self-produced with drummer/collaborator, Jim Rindfleish), McGuffie explored conflicting ideas of numbness and disconnect, with glimmers of hope and optimism. Across these releases, McGuffie enlisted the expertise of Matt Voigt (Big Scary, Oh Mercy) and Lachlan Carrick (Gotye, Lior), whose experience and insight helped to refine and contextualise the band’s sound.

Mcrobin’s intricate harmonies and multifaceted instrumental textures recall the cinematic musical scope of sonic pioneers like Beck and Wilco, teasing at the possibility of many diverse future musical directions for the band.

"The record has tones that feel inspired by Fleetwood Mac with a sprinkle of Leonard Cohen (when he’s in a really good mood). We’re just about ready to take this to our local hangout and request they put it on repeat.” AAA Backstage
