Led by award-winning composer, conductor and interdisciplinary artist Chucho Bruno, KARAKA transforms the traditional orchestra into something entirely its own: a live band moving seamlessly across Afrobeat, funk, jazz, soul, cumbia and a wide spectrum of global rhythms in an organic, ever-evolving musical journey.
At the heart of the experience is a musical sign language originating in Argentina, “Rhythm with Signs,” allowing Chucho to shape collective musical improvisation in real time ~ guiding the musicians through gesture and cue.
In the spirit of James Brown and 1960's "Wall of Sound" production, KARAKA brings together two drummers and two guitarists, with hypnotic percussion, keys, flute, soaring horns and deep, irresistible bass ~ a cast of multi-instrumentalist maestros, each bringing their own sound, presence and energy to the performance.
